Madhuram Jeevitham brings high-quality NCD complication screening closer to communities, identifying complications early and connecting individuals to primary healthcare before disability or irreversible damage occurs.
The initiative addresses a critical gap: complications such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, neuropathy, and cardiac risk often remain silent until advanced. Through mobile community camps hosted with local self-governments and Urban Primary Health Centres, CEDAC’s trained teams conduct AI-enabled fundus imaging for diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma risk screening, ECG and blood pressure assessment, and structured referral pathways to ophthalmologists, physicians, and UPHCs.
The Kochi pilot, conducted across 12 locations within Kochi Municipal Corporation, screened more than 400 people and detected over 80 early-stage diabetic retinopathy cases — demonstrating the value of systematic community-level screening in preventing avoidable blindness and disability.
