The Age-Friendly Medical College initiative, led by CEDAC in collaboration with Believers Church Medical College Hospital (BCMCH), Tiruvalla, transforms medical education into a model of healthy ageing, age-inclusive healthcare, and compassionate long-term care.
The Mundiyapalli Model — centred around the Community Ageing Resource Centre (CARC) in Mundiyapalli, Kaviyoor Panchayat — integrates healthcare, rehabilitation, community participation, and long-term care into a single ecosystem. Departments involved include Community Medicine, Geriatrics, Palliative Care, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Nursing, and Social Work.
The model integrates the four focus areas of the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing: combating ageism, integrated care for older persons through ICOPE, creating age-friendly environments, and strengthening long-term care systems. Innovative approaches include virtual reality-enabled rehabilitation, cognitive wellness programmes, fall-risk prevention, and age-friendly campus design. CEDAC facilitates collaborations with WHO-GNAFCC, the Geriatric Society of India, Kaviyoor Panchayat, and civil society partners.
