Age-Friendly Kochi is CEDAC’s flagship city-level programme, supporting Kochi Municipal Corporation in its journey as a member of the WHO Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities. The programme applies the WHO eight-domain framework across outdoor spaces, transport, housing, social participation, civic participation, communication, community support, and health services.

CEDAC coordinates baseline evaluation using the WHO Vancouver Protocol, facilitates stakeholder consultations with older persons, caregivers, and service providers, and translates findings into age-friendly action plans for the city. Multiple initiatives including Kochi Spotlight, Madhuram Jeevitham, and Smart Seniors operate under the Age-Friendly Kochi umbrella.

With a city population of 3,406,055 and 16.5% over the age of 60, Kochi represents one of India’s most significant age-friendly city initiatives — demonstrating how a major Indian urban centre can systematically implement WHO-aligned ageing frameworks at scale. The programme was started in 2024 and is ongoing.
